The Richmond Area Speleological Society, or “RASS” for short, is a non-profit caving club based in Richmond, Virginia.
RASS is dedicated to the conservation, education, and exploration of caves, and is a grotto (local affiliate group) of the National Speleological Society (NSS). The NSS is the national association for
Most RASS members are also rock climbers, canoers, kayakers, hikers, skiers, disc golfers, conservationists, mountain bikers, canyoneers, and other people who have a love for the outdoors. The club is a great place for families, couples, individuals - anyone who is interested in caving!

RASS owns 20+ acres of land in Bath County, Virginia. This property is near several major caves and can accommodate large groups of cavers.
There are 5 campsites with electric hook-ups and plenty of primitive site areas to pitch your tent.
Along with the campsites, RASS also has a "cabin" with bunk beds and a wood stove as well as a shower house and pavilion for social events.
If you are wanting to practice vertical caving, RASS also has a rappel tower on the property that is open when vertical-equipped members are present.

RASS holds three main weekend events each year at our property in the Spring, Summer and Fall.
These are excellent opportunities to join a cave trip and enjoy a club sponsored community dinner on Saturday.
Sundays involve either more caving, or a chance to participate in our bi-annual roadside clean-up.
Check the events calendar for specific dates!
